Goji berries grow on one bush, the common lyciet, growing up to 1-3 m in height. It is a very hardy deciduous shrub that has many flexuous, pendulous and slightly thorny twigs. The leaves are solitary and are 2-3 cm long. The flower is carried by a pedicel, flowering occurs between June and September. The fruit is a more or less red or orange berry, oblong in shape, resembling an elongated cherry. It ripens between August and October.
